Major Darryl Wilson

Graduate Assistant

wilsondt@udel.edu

Darryl’s story begins in the Projects of North Philadelphia being raised by a single parent mother on welfare with four other siblings. Despite those circumstances however, he never allowed it to define him or dictate where he would go in life. After graduating from John Bartram High School in 2002, he immediately joined the United States Army as his path to a better life. After graduating from Basic Combat Training and Advance Individual Training as a Chemical Soldier in 2003, he made the decision to attend College with aspirations of becoming a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army. Through hard work and perseverance, his dreams were realized in 2008 when he became the first person in his family to ever graduate college. Darryl graduated from Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in Cognitive Neuroscience and minors in both Public Health and Healthcare Management. Additionally, he earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. During the last 12 years, Darryl has traveled the world both domestically and internationally. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from August 2010 to August 2011 as a member of the 4th Infantry Division, 1-66 Combined Arms Battalion.

Darryl’s tenure in the military has allowed him the opportunity to acquire multiple advance degrees to include a MA in Emergency Management from American Military University and an MBA in Healthcare Management and Strategic Leadership from the University of Delaware. Although Darryl has had the opportunity to accomplish these things, his number one passion revolves around the mentoring of young men and women who have the desire to change their current circumstances despite where they have started in life. In his spare time, Darryl can be found engaging in multiple fitness events that include running and biking. He can also be found spending time with his two children Julia and DJ which is number one priority.
